Shirley was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan and grew up in and around Broadview and Moosomin. After graduating from high school in 1944, she entered VGH School of Nursing, graduating in 1947. Following graduation Shirley worked as a maternity nurse and then in 1949, married Don McAllister. The family lived in Fort St. John, Nanaimo, Crofton and Woodfibre before settling in Squamish in 1966.  Shirley joined the staff of Squamish General Hospital in 1971, became head nurse four years later and retired in 1990. Through her work at the Hospital she impacted many lives and will be remembered for her kind and compassionate care. She also served as a member on both the Hospital and Foundation Boards. She enjoyed travelling, playing bridge, dancing, and singing all kinds of music. Shirley passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 87. She is survived by her daughter Patti,son Robbie and grandsons.
