The VGH School of Nursing Alumnae Building Society was created by the Alumnae circa 1961 so that the Alumnae could develop and operate a Residence to provide economical housing for retired nurses.
ALUMNAE MANOR opened on December 6, 1963 and was operated successfully by the Building Society until May 2002 when it was sold to the city of Vancouver. The proceeds of the sale went to meet another Alumnae goal, namely “to provide funding for nurses to further their education”. An Endowment was created in the VGH/UBC Foundation and funds were added to existing endowments at UBC and the Registered Nurses’ Foundation.
The Building Society was dissolved on November 17, 2003. ALUMNAE MANOR retains its name today and is operated by Coast Foundation
